IsDB joins Digital Cooperation Organization as observer

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has joined a global multilateral body mandated to facilitate digital prosperity through inclusive growth of the digital economy.

Joining as an observer, the IsDB along with five new observers – Bahrain Technology Companies Society, Deloitte, Mobily, OneWeb and Visa – will collaborate with the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) through its programs and initiatives.

“The cooperation with these six new observers is the latest leap forward for the DCO as we continue to forge strategic partnerships that play an active role in harnessing the power of the digital economy,” commented Hassan Nasser, DCO’s vice-president of international affairs and membership.

Recently, its executive committee members (Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Oman) agreed to establish a structure and plan for its governing body.

DCO works closely with governments, the private sector and civil society to implement measures in digital skills training, data protection, intellectual copyright, regulation, taxation and entrepreneurship. Its key initiatives include programs to enhance cross-border data flows (it set up a think tank to this effect), promote market expansion for SMEs through its STRIDE program, empower digital entrepreneurs and advance digital inclusion among women and youth and other underrepresented groups.
