Wahed scores new brand ambassador – Manchester United’s Paul Pogba

A meeting in September 2021 between international football star Paul Pogba and Islamic robo advisor Wahed’s CEO Junaid Wahedna has culminated in a collaboration to attract Muslim youths into the realm of Shariah compliant digital investments.

Pogba is a French professional footballer who plays for the France national team and Premier League club Manchester United.

“After meeting Junaid and understanding Wahed’s mission, I knew I wanted to be part of it, because growing up we didn’t have access to a safe way to manage and grow our money. I hope that my partnership with Wahed will help show young people that there are ways to start investing the right way and it’s smart to start thinking about long-term financial goals early in life,” Pogba said.

Apart from being a brand ambassador, Pogba has also personally invested in the Islamic fintech company. He joins brand ambassadors UFC champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and his team of mixed martial arts fighters.

New York-headquartered Wahed has operations in nine markets including the UK, Malaysia and Bahrain through its 11 offices serving over 300,000 clients.

The announcement of Pogba’s ambassadorship comes just two months after the firm hired Haitham Al-Sayed, a former manager at US-based Saturna Capital, as its new global head of institutional sales and advisory services, and follows the formation of a new risk and audit unit in March in response to a legal tussle with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
